On Saturday Sept 6, nearly 500 supporters packed into Mulcahy's Bar, in Wantagh, Nassau County, New York for the Pete King for Congress Campaign Kick Off. The event was chaired by, among others, Jimmy Boyle, past president of the United Firefighter's Association.

The crowd was about eighty per cent Irish - American prompting one attendee to remark, "This is the real Irish America. Not the Manhattan - based Irish Left Wing cocktail circuit that is incessantly regurgitated as 'Irish America'".

In addressing the attendance, Pete King asked everybody for their support. He stated that he was running on his record of principled support for commonsenical measures to secure the nation. He noted that because of measures like the Patriot Act and other proactive steps like intelligent eavesdropping, law enforcement and our intelligence services had been successful in thwarting several Islamic terrorist plots since Sept 11. Consequently, the nation had successfully avoided another attack. However, Islamic terrorism had not gone away and the enemy was always watching and waiting.

Pete also spoke of his support for the campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan and stated that he would continue to support their assertive prosecution and to ensure that our troops enjoyed full support. Pete also referred to his endeavors to combat illegal immigration and to secure our borders, mentioning that these goals were essential to our national security and economic vitality. He committed to continuing these efforts in the next Congress.

Pete enthusiastically endorsed the John McCain - Sarah Palin ticket. Describing McCain as a true American hero, he urged all to turn out on Election Day to make Senator McCain the next President of the United States.
