Obama’s Friend, America’s Enemy
By the Editors
Have you ever been a friend or business associate of a terrorist? Not someone who, to your shock and horror, turned out secretly to have bombed government buildings. No, the question is whether you’ve ever befriended an unreconstructed radical whose past was well known to you when you entered his orbit and walked through doors he opened for you. Have you been chummy with an unapologetic terrorist who, years after you’d known and worked closely with him, was still telling The New York Times he regretted only failing to carry out more attacks — and that America still “makes me want to puke”? Barack Obama has.
An organization called the American Issues Project, backed by Dallas investor Harold Simmons, is running a campaign ad which highlights Obama’s troubling relationship with William Ayers. Ayers is a former member of the Weathermen terrorist organization that bombed the Pentagon, the U.S. Capitol, various police headquarters, and other targets in the early 1970s. The Obama campaign’s rejoinder is three-pronged: The first shot was an Obama response ad, which fails to offer any substantive explanation of why Obama maintains ties to Ayers. Obama’s second move was to launch a heavy-handed effort to pressure television stations into rejecting the ad by promising financial retaliation against the stations and their advertisers — which effort has apparently succeeded in intimidating Fox and CNN. The capper is a desperate call for the Justice Department to muzzle political speech through the prospect of a criminal investigation — a demand that provides a disturbing sneak peak into what life would be like under an Obama Justice Department. Needless to say, none of this is justified.
If Obama has a good explanation for his ties to Ayers, he ought to give it. In the meantime, raising questions about that relationship is entirely legitimate. Obama’s campaign has acknowledged that the candidate and Ayers are friends. Though Obama has more recently minimized Ayers as “just a guy who lives in my neighborhood,” it is clear that the relationship was much deeper than that. Ayers and his fellow-terrorist wife, Bernadine Dohrn (who has spoken admiringly of the infamous Manson Family murders), are icons in Chicago’s hard-left circles, to which Obama sought entrĂ©e as a young “community organizer.” In 1995, they hosted a fundraiser that helped launch his career in Chicago politics.
Ayers has never abandoned his indictment of America as an imperialist hotbed of racism and economic exploitation. He has merely shifted methods from violent extortion to academic indoctrination. Through his perch as a professor of education at the University of Illinois, he has been a ceaseless critic of the criminal-justice system (he is essentially opposed to imprisoning even the most violent criminals) and a proponent of what he calls “education reform” but what is actually the use of the classroom to proselytize for the Left’s political agenda. Writing in the Chicago Tribune in 1997, Obama called A Kind and Just Parent, Ayers’ polemic on the Chicago court system, “a searing and timely account.” Michelle Obama, then a dean at the University of Illinois, invited Ayers to participate in a panel with her husband, then a state senator who, the program explained, was “working to block proposed legislation that would throw more juvenile offenders into the adult system.” Obama apologists dismiss all this as “guilt by association” based on a single joint appearance. But it was far from the only one.
In fact, by 1997 Obama and Ayers were collaborators on a far more significant level. They sat together for several years on the board of the Woods Fund, a left-wing Chicago charitable organization. There, they doled out tens of thousands of dollars to such beneficiaries as the Trinity Church (where Obama was a longtime member and where another Obama mentor, Jeremiah Wright, preached a radical, anti-American brand of Black Liberation Theology) and the Arab American Action Network (co-founded by Rashid Khalidi, a Yasser Arafat apologist who has supported attacks against Israel and now directs Columbia University’s notorious Middle East Institute, founded by Edward Said). Even more intriguing, in 1995 Ayers won a $49.2 million grant from the Annenberg Foundation — matched two-to-one by public and private contributions — to promote “reform” in the Chicago school system. He quickly brought in Obama, then all of 33 and bereft of any executive experience, to chair the board. With Ayers directing the project’s operational arm and Obama overseeing its financial affairs until 1999, the Chicago Annenberg Challenge distributed more than $100 million to ideological allies with no discernible improvement in public education.
Until this week, moreover, the University of Illinois at Chicago, where Ayers works, was blocking access to the project’s files (examination of which was being sought by frequent National Review contributor Stanley Kurtz), until finally relenting under public pressure. Less than three months from Election Day, analysis of the records from Barack Obama’s only significant executive experience is just beginning. The mainstream media has been derelict on the Obama/Ayers relationship. Perhaps now, finally, it will get the scrutiny it deserves.

Race in The Race

Harry Stein
If Obama loses the election, it won’t be because of bigotry

IF OBAMA LOSES was the headline of Jacob Weisberg’s recent piece in Slate, and the subhead completed the thought: RACISM IS THE ONLY REASON MCCAIN MIGHT BEAT HIM. More than just ugly—and worse, potentially inflammatory—such a claim is contradicted by the evidence. Yet in the weeks prior to the party nominating conventions, as Obama’s poll numbers sank, it became something like common wisdom in left-liberal circles: an all-purpose explanation for the otherwise inexplicable failure of this most transcendent of candidates to ignite the universal approbation his fans regard as his due. Florida GOP/Conservatives Endorse Sarah Palin

Florida Federation of Republican Assemblies
An affiliate of the National Federation of Republican Assemblies

"The Republican Wing of the Republican Party"

The Florida Federation of Republican Assemblies and our state affiliates would like to congratulate Senator McCain for his selection of Sarah Palin for Vice President. The Assemblies have been promoting her candidacy for several months as the answer to the Democrat slate.

Governor Palin's selection will bring confidence to the Conservative wing of the GOP as her social and fiscal credentials are impeccable. She brings executive experience to the ticket as a former mayor and the current Governor of Alaska. In addition as Governor of Alaska, she has experience as the commander - in - chief of that state's National Guard. Governor Palin not only talks the talk she walks the walk.

This is the injection of confidence that the McCain campaign needed and we will be working to organize our Republican Women and conservative base to support this history making ticket.

After running 7,307 times in 14 markets, the American Issues Project today wraps up its first phase of a television advertising issue campaign, which called into question the longstanding relationship between Barack Obama and unrepentant 1960’s domestic terrorist, William Ayers. “American Issues Project clearly has struck a nerve inside theObama campaign, but even more important is the reaction of the American people, who are starting to question why Sen. Obama would have such a close relationship with an unrepentant domestic terrorist,” said Ed Martin, American Issues Project president.CONTINUE READING

Forty Years Ago This Week

Daniel Flynn
Overrate ’68 - Why is the Left glorying in its worst hour?

Forty years ago this week, radical activists descended on Chicago to protest the Democratic National Convention. In the ensuing chaos, hospitals treated 192 policemen, more than 650 people were arrested, and one demonstrator was killed. This week, a group calling itself “Recreate 68” has converged on Denver to protest the 2008 Democratic National Convention. Its name to the contrary, Recreate 68’s organizers insist that they aren’t paying homage to the ’68 protestors. Not that they believe that the protestors did anything wrong: echoing the words of the federal government’s
Walker Report, Recreate 68 contends that “what happened in Chicago in 1968 was not a violent protest, but rather a ‘police riot.’”

Fundraising For Good Old Martin
By Charley Brady

Here is a bedroom story for you, boys and girls. Are you sitting comfortably? You are? Good. Then I'll begin.

There once was a monster in Ireland who was responsible in, oh say many ways for killings and knee cappings, but that was all right because he was a freedom fighter.
So it didn't really matter that he was responsible for putting poor souls through years of unrelieved misery as they grieved for their dead, many of whom are missing and whose bodies still lie in unmarked graves.

Later, much much later, he decided that he would become a good monster. He decided that he would become a - wait for it - Good Guy. Because you see now boys and girls, he had become a grown up. Or pretended to be for his own ends. And on that note we shall return to things as they are in the real world.

I've never tried to hide my loathing of these people, mainly because of disappointment at how badly they have let us down with their grubby murdering and drug-running ways while they pretend to speak in our name.

This, of course, has nothing at all to do with the fact that Martin McGuinness, the Deputy First Minister had the bare-faced cheek and lack of sensitivity to appear at the very moving ceremony for the people who were murdered in Omagh ten years ago this week.

I need your support!

Dear Friends and Family:
As you may know, I have accepted the challenge and am participating in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. Did you know that every three minutes, another woman in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer? I didn't, and I was shocked to learn how prevalent this horrible disease has become in this country. I have eagerly started with my fundraising and I need your support! I have pledged to raise money for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer as part of my participation in the walk.
Your contribution will help to support medical research into the possible causes of, and cure for, breast cancer, education and early detection programs, and clinical care and support services for women with breast cancer in communities across the country. There is a special focus on helping medically underserved women, the poor, minorities, the elderly, or those with inadequate health insurance. And much of the money granted by the Foundation goes back to the communities where it was raised, supporting everything from local grassroots programs to national organizations.
It is faster and easier than ever to support this great cause - you can make a donation online by simply clicking on the link at the bottom of this message. Whatever you can give will help! I truly appreciate your support and will keep you posted on my progress.

King Instrumental - Visas for 15 9/11 Bereaved

Visas for 15 Who Lost Relatives on 9/11
By KIRK SEMPLE
New York Times
August 16, 2008
Federal officials granted temporary legal status on Friday to 15 illegal immigrants whose spouses or parents died on 9/11 but who have remained largely invisible, living in the shadows of society for fear of deportation. Those officials and the families’ supporters said the decision would clear the way for Congress to move forward on bills that would grant the immigrants permanent legal status. “When I told my clients about it, there were tears of joy,” said Debra Brown Steinberg, a lawyer representing several of the immigrants. “They can show their faces and say their names.” “Now they can make 9/11 their story, too,” she added. “It’s a great day.” The immigrants have lived in limbo since the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. They were the wives, husbands and children of several victims in the World Trade Center, some of whom were legal immigrants, the rest of whom were illegal themselves.

McCain 5-Point Lead Over Obama

Poll shows McCain in 5-point lead over Obama
Wed Aug 20, 2008 8:01am EDT
By John Whitesides, Political Correspondent
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - In a sharp turnaround, Republican John McCain has opened a 5-point lead on Democrat Barack Obama in the U.S. presidential race and is seen as a stronger manager of the economy, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.
McCain leads Obama among likely U.S. voters by 46 percent to 41 percent, wiping out Obama's solid 7-point advantage in July and taking his first lead in the monthly Reuters/Zogby poll. The reversal follows a month of attacks by McCain, who has questioned Obama's experience, criticized his opposition to most new offshore oil drilling and mocked his overseas trip. The poll was taken Thursday through Saturday as Obama wrapped up a weeklong vacation in Hawaii that ceded the political spotlight to McCain, who seized on Russia's invasion of Georgia to emphasize his foreign policy views.
"There is no doubt the campaign to discredit Obama is paying off for McCain right now," pollster John Zogby said. "This is a significant ebb for Obama. "McCain now has a 9-point edge, 49 percent to 40 percent, over Obama on the critical question of who would be the best manager of the economy -- an issue nearly half of voters said was their top concern in the November 4 presidential election. That margin reversed Obama's 4-point edge last month on the economy over McCain, an Arizona senator and former Vietnam prisoner of war who has admitted a lack of economic expertise and shows far greater interest in foreign and military policy.
McCain has been on the offensive against Obama during the last month over energy concerns, with polls showing strong majorities supporting his call for an expansion of offshore oil drilling as gasoline prices hover near $4 a gallon. Obama had opposed new offshore drilling, but said recently he would support a limited expansion as part of a comprehensive energy program. That was one of several recent policy shifts for Obama, as he positions himself for the general election battle. But Zogby said the changes could be taking a toll on Obama's support, particularly among Democrats and self-described liberals. "That hairline difference between nuance and what appears to be flip-flopping is hurting him with liberal voters," Zogby said. Obama's support among Democrats fell 9 percentage points this month to 74 percent, while McCain has the backing of 81 percent of Republicans. Support for Obama, an Illinois senator, fell 12 percentage points among liberals, with 10 percent of liberals still undecided compared to 9 percent of conservatives.
"Conservatives were supposed to be the bigger problem for McCain," Zogby said. "Obama still has work to do on his base. At this point McCain seems to be doing a better job with is." The dip in support for Obama, who would be the first black U.S. president, cut across demographic and ideological lines. He slipped among Catholics, born-again Christians, women, independents and younger voters. He retained the support of more than 90 percent of black voters. "There were no wild swings, there isn't one group that is radically different than last month or even two months ago. It was just a steady decline for Obama across the board," Zogby said.
Obama's support among voters between the ages of 18 and 29, which had been one of his strengths, slipped 12 percentage points to 52 percent. McCain, who will turn 72 next week, was winning 40 percent of younger voters. "Those are not the numbers Obama needs to win," Zogby said about Americans under 30. The 47-year-old is counting on a strong turnout among young voters, a key bloc of support during his primary battle with New York Sen. Hillary Clinton.
It made little difference when independent candidate Ralph Nader and Libertarian Party candidate Bob Barr, who are both trying to add their names to state ballots. McCain still held a 5-point edge over Obama, 44 percent to 39 percent, when all four names were included. Barr earned 3 percent and Nader 2 percent. Most national polls have given Obama a narrow lead over McCain throughout the summer. In the Reuters/Zogby poll, Obama had a 5-point lead in June, shortly after he clinched the Democratic nomination, and an 8-point lead on McCain in May.
The telephone poll of 1,089 likely voters had a margin of error of 3 percentage points. The poll was taken as both candidates head into their nominating conventions and the announcements of their choices of vice presidential picks. The Democratic convention begins on Monday in Denver, with the Republican convention opening the next Monday, September 1, in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Bono And Other Pessimistic Ponderings

Bouncing Your Head In The Rubber Room
By Charley Brady

There are times when you just feel despair as you bounce your head from the walls of the rubber room in this country.
Actually, I take that back. Bouncing my head off the walls is beginning to look good to me at the moment.
There's a couple of things that I had hoped I would never have to write about again; but like a really bad case of the blues they just keep coming back. And then you just can't help but comment.
OK. So we'll get the ridiculous and always in-your-face egoist with the laughable stacked heels and who hails from Oompa-Loompa Land out of the way first.
Yes, you've guessed it: it's Uncle Bono. Come on, you must know him. He starred in
"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." Had quite a small role. Well, when I say small he was there... oh, somewhere I'm sure.

Latest from Libertas

Reacting to news that the Kremlin's heavy armour, infantry and air forces had invaded the independent and democratic European country of Georgia, Libertas chairman Declan Ganley this afternoon called on EU leaders to unite and show strong an unequivocal support for Georgia's democratically-elected government.
Tensions in the region have been rising since April's NATO summit meeting which barred Ukraine and Georgia from the membership process following objections to their memberships by the governments of France and Germany who had promised to 're-examine' the possibility of eventual membership in December.
Ganley, who spent his early business career working in the countries of the former Soviet Bloc said: "The rejection by certain of their fellow Europeans, of Georgian membership of NATO and the deliberate slow rolling of their intention to join the the European Union, sent a message to a boldly assertive Kremlin, that Georgia is 'in play'. There are a few European leaders who might consider tonight how they are going to retrieve a situation where by their lack of leadership and vision, they have effectively thrown Georgia to the wolves."

No Energy Plan Is Not A Good Plan

Wednesday August 6, 2008

'No Plan' Is Not A Good Plan
The idea that the country's current energy woes can be ignored, or solved by citizens correctly filling the tires on their cars is pedantic and dangerous. The Democratic leadership in Congress decided to go home for summer last week, despite pleas from the Republican minority for the House to stay in session and pass some form of Energy Bill to deal with the current crisis. Despite the microphones and cameras, and at one point the lights, being turned off, the minority stayed all afternoon (and returned this week) to protest the cutting off of debate.

Dubya Must Recall Congress

Dubya Must Recall Congress
No fair up-or-down votes on lifting Congressional bans on domestic oil drilling!
While the American people suffer from record-high gas prices, that is the message -- loud and clear -- from Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and her liberal colleagues!
In fact, Pelosi and Company are so dead set against alleviating the pain Americans are feeling at the pump that she hurriedly banged down the gavel, adjourned Congress and FLED from Washington for a five-week vacation.

And, when a group of conservative legislators tried to speak directly to the American people about the need for Congress to address our nation's energy crisis before skipping town, Pelosi ACTUALLY turned off the microphones, shut off the cameras and turned out the lights!

Right now, many Americans can't afford to go on vacation because of the high price of gasoline. But that didn't stop Nancy Pelosi from taking her five-week summer recess. In defense of her egregious actions, all she could do several days ago was rant:
"I'm trying to save the planet; I'm trying to save the planet. I will not have this debate trivialized by their excuses for their failed policy."
"Trying to save the planet?" How many people will have to suffer before she declares the world safe? And moreover, what "failed policy" is Pelosi talking about? President Bush and conservative legislators are calling for the REVERSAL of a 30-year policy of limiting domestic drilling. They are trying to reduce America's dependence on foreign oil by responsibly increasing our domestic supply. How can a policy that hasn't been implemented in 30 years be a "failed policy?" Is Pelosi that out of touch with the 70% of the American people who support more domestic drilling?

Well guess what? Pelosi and her minions might be able to run but they can't hide. Members of Congress have fax machines in their district offices too.
And we're not going to let Pelosi get away with her callous obstruction while Americans are suffering, in large part, because Pelosi objects to any and all new domestic drilling! Despite what Nancy Pelosi may think, this is not the former-Soviet Union! Nancy Pelosi cannot single-handedly repress free speech and callously disregard the will of the American people. She needs to be put in her place and told this is not the way things work in the United States of America!

President Bush has the power to call Congress back into session and Congressional leaders have that power as well! And together, we're going to MAKE SURE IT HAPPENS -- RIGHT HERE AND RIGHT NOW! We're going to demand that Pelosi's Politburo be brought back into town -- kicking and screaming if necessary -- for one purpose and one purpose alone; a fair up-or-down vote on lifting Congressional bans on domestic drilling!

Use the hyperlink below to send your urgent and personalized Blast Fax messages to President George W. Bush and each and every Member of the Leadership of the House and Senate! Tell them in no uncertain terms that the American people want them back in Washington DC and that there WILL BE NO VACATION for them until they hold a fair up-or-down vote on lifting Congressional prohibitions on domestic drilling!
President Bush has the power to call them back into town! They have the power to call themselves back into town! Tell our elected officials that they serve the American people and we REFUSE to wait until September just so they can come back to Washington and continue stalling this vote! Tell them their employers want them back at work and we want them back now!
If the above hyperlink does not function, copy and paste it into the address bar of your browser.

Here's the Play-By-Play
Question: Why would Pelosi shut down the microphones, chase away the C-SPAN camera crews and turn off the lights while Members of Congress were still speaking on the floor?Answer: Simply put, Pelosi and her liberal colleagues do not want you and your fellow Americans to hear the other side of the debate. She blatantly was suppressing the speech of opposing points of view?

John Gizzi with Human Events gives us some of the sad and sordid details:
"Speaker Nancy Pelosi attempted repeatedly to shut down lawmakers from making the five-minute speeches that traditionally mark the closing of a House session. Angry conservatives on the Republican side rebelled, turned on microphones that the speaker had shut off, and kept the House press gallery in operation as more and more reporters came by to see what on earth was happening.... This was war, all right. And as Rep. John Shadegg of Arizona, one of the leaders of the Republican revolt told me, 'The speaker wouldn't let us have the five-minute speeches because she didn't want the day dominated on the floor by speeches pointing out she has not allowed a vote on a single measure to permit greater oil exploration for the past two months. This is our answer to the Orange Revolution and our modern day Boston tea party.'"

Gizzi continues:
"'Word spread that the speaker -- who was never actually here on the floor -- was going to shut down the House press gallery,' a breathless Shadegg told me in a call from the floor, 'But rules are clear that the gallery can't be shut down if a Member is there. So a bunch of us have been taking turns -- we're 'human shields,' keeping the press gallery going.' Along with Shadegg, the 'human shields' included House GOP Whip Roy Blunt (Mo.), and Texas Reps. Ted Poe and John Carter."'You cannot repress free speech, Madame Speaker,' declared Shadegg, adding that the intense protest to keep the floor and press gallery alive were critical because 'every day without oil production, the American people are hurt. It destroys the lives of the poorest Americans, those with the oldest cars, the worst mileage, and sometimes the longest commutes. That's the point we are making.'"

This point bears repeating.
Traditionally when Congress adjourns, Members are allowed to make five-minute speeches before going home. But Pelosi DIDN'T WANT THEM TO SPEAK! So she shut down the microphones and turned off the lights -- even though she had no clear right to do it.
Nancy Pelosi is out of control! Her blind allegiance to a Socialist philosophy has warped her judgment! We need to send Nancy Pelosi a message and let her know exactly WHO IS IN CHARGE -- THE AMERICAN PEOPLE!

Use the hyperlink below to send your urgent and personalized Blast Fax messages to President George W. Bush and each and every Member of the Leadership of the House and Senate!

National Watermelon Month... The Lunatics Appear to Have Taken Over The Asylum!
Just to put some perspective on just how out of touch Pelosi and Company are, consider the following statement from Tony Perkins with Family Research Council:
"Of the 290 laws passed this Congress (which comes dangerously close to the lowest number ever), 30 percent of them just name post offices. Congress also took the time to recognize July as 'National Watermelon Month' and officially classify dirt as a natural resource. It is little wonder that Congress's approval rating is in the single digits -- nine percent -- for the first time ever."

The Pelosi Politburo had the time to declare July "National Watermelon Month." The Pelosi Politburo had the time to classify dirt as a national resource, but didn't have the time or inclination to call a vote on the most pressing issue facing the American people TODAY!
Is THAT how you "save the planet?"

It would appear the lunatics have taken over the asylum! But at least some of our elected officials have gotten the message. Republican Leaders John Boehner and Roy Blunt put together a memo asking President Bush to call Congress back into session. The memo reads in part:
"It's not a request we make lightly. But the American people are suffering. The consequences of continued congressional inaction on gas prices are unacceptable. We've called on the Speaker to call Congress back into an emergency session this month and schedule a vote on the American Energy Act. We must continue to make a stand until the Speaker complies."
And some are answering the call. According to ABC News:
"House Republicans tell ABC News that at least 30 members of Congress ... are flying back to DC from their Districts today and tomorrow to attend a special debate on energy policy. This 'session' is scheduled for Monday, August 4th beginning at 10 am ET. As expected, no Democrats will participate."

And where does President Bush stand? John Gizzi recounting a conversation with Congressman Mike Pence:
"'I spoke with a key aide and made it clear he should urge the President to call Congress back and deal with the energy crisis.' Pence would not say who the aide was, but noted that the response to his admonition was 'very positive.'"

Congressman Wally Herger told Gizzi:
"'We're doing everything we can to get President Bush to bring Congress back. As to the White House's attitude on making this rare-but-constitutional step, Herger said, I'd say that right now, it's rising on his [Bush's] agenda.'"

And if you're asking; 'when will President Bush act,' the answer should be obvious.
He's waiting to hear from you.

Dare We Say Socialism?
We're actually at a pivotal moment in our nation's history. And we're playing a very sick game of "chicken." Make no mistake, Nancy Pelosi is the leader of a group of legislators who are pushing a far-Left -- dare we say Socialist -- agenda that has infected the Democratic Party! And she's staring down the American people ... standing her ground... hoping you and I will flinch first!

Want proof? Look no further than this recent statement on the floor of the House of Representatives by Congresswoman Maxine Waters to the President of Shell Oil:
"This liberal will be all about SOCIAL____ (abrupt pause) uhhhh... uhhh... (pause) will be about... (pause) basically taking over and the government running all your companies."
Or how about this statement by Congressman Maurice Hinchey:
"Maybe they'd be willing to have these companies owned publicly... owned by the people of the United States."
Waters and Hinchey aren't even attempting to obscure the fact that they want to nationalize our industries -- THAT'S SOCIALISM!

And what about Pelosi? She KNOWS that if she can get away with single-handedly obstructing a vote on the one thing that can relieve the suffering of Americans without being run out of town on a rail -- namely lifting prohibitions on domestic drilling -- she can probably get away with anything!

"All That Is Necessary For Evil To Triumph Is For Good Men To Do Nothing." - Edmund Burke
Some of our elected leaders are not about to let Pelosi get away with it! Congressman Shadegg sent an e-mail out which read in part:

"We're not giving up ... Over 70% of Americans favor increased domestic drilling. Republicans believe that a viewpoint held by a majority of the public deserves, at the very least, a vote on the floor of the people's house. Congressional Democrats have repeatedly admitted, by requesting that President Bush open the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, that an increase in supply will decrease prices. Yet, over the past several months, they have barred from the floor any legislation seeking to increase domestic supply -- and now, they've gone on vacation. This isn't just about gas prices; this is about our economic and national security. . . My colleagues and I are committed to an energy policy that increases the domestic supply of fossil fuels to power the American economy of today, and aggressively pursues a variety of alternatives, including solar, nuclear, wind, and hydropower, to drive the American economy of tomorrow. We can, and we must, lower energy prices, create American jobs, and cease our funding of Hugo Chavez and other unfriendly governments. Speaker Pelosi may believe that Americans can wait until September for relief, but if you ask the average family of four, living paycheck to paycheck, relief can't come soon enough."
Shadegg is RIGHT!

This battle is about more than gasoline prices, and yes, even the suffering of Americans who are living paycheck to paycheck! History may remember this fight over domestic drilling in a greater context . . . as a pivotal battle in our fight to maintain "our economic and national security" -- indeed our sovereignty as a nation! And while we can applaud legislators like Shadegg and Blunt and Boehner and Pence for taking the fight to Pelosi; their actions will not make the difference!

The actions of the American people will determine the final outcome! If good men and women do nothing, Pelosi will succeed! Together, we must take action right here and right now!

Oh, La, La! Sarkozy In Ireland

He Came, He Saw, He Stared Into Our Eyes

By Charley Brady

It's one of those times that I really didn't want to be right, but you don't always get what you want. Especially if the country you live in insists on electing time after time a group of gutless windbags whom you would not wish to have in your corner under any circumstances, let alone when being visited by Emperor Bonaparte Sarkozy. Several columns back I said that if the Majestic One visited us there would probably be some serious sucking up from our corner. Yes, you guessed it. It did so come to pass.

Think Again Senator

Wednesday July 30, 2008
Think Again Senator
Illinios Senator and presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama visited Iraq for the first time since 2006 last week and while we welcome the fact that he went there to evaluate the new conditions on the ground, we are concerned at his conclusions and his refusal to rethink his position on the success of the 'surge'.

Questioned by ABC's Terry Moran, who asked: "If you had to do it over again, knowing what you know now, would you support the surge?," Senator Obama said, "No. Keep in mind, these kind of hypotheticals are very difficult.
You know hindsight is 20/20. But I think that what I am absolutely convinced of is at that time we had to change the political debate because the view of the Bush administration at that time was one I just disagreed with."

By Will McCabe
While the Republican Parties of Brooklyn and Staten Island scramble to unify behind a singular candidate for the 13th Congressional District, there is another less publicized race in the city that has politicos across the area talking.

Well-known community activist and grass roots organizer, Bob Capano is making a run for the New York State Assembly. Bob has been a long-time friend to conservative causes throughout Brooklyn and has been instrumental in bringing young people to the Republican Party in Brooklyn.

A Message From John Faso

You may have recently received the attached message from New Yorkers for Growth. I am personally involved with this organization and hope you will take the time to consider supporting this effort. Please forward to a friend.
Sincerely,
John J. Faso

Dear Friend:
New Yorkers for Growth is an organization dedicated to the renewed economic prosperity of the Empire State.
www.newyorkersforgrowth.com. We are a group of public-spirited citizens who have come together in order to support candidates for state and local office who recognize that tax reduction, spending restraint and economic reform are key ingredients to the prosperity of our citizens.
To that end, we have created a political committee, registered with the New York State Board of Elections, to make contributions to candidates who are truly committed to reform and fiscal responsibility. In particular, we believe that a school property tax cap is key to stemming the tide of people who are leaving New York State because they can no longer afford to stay here. So far, we have endorsed two candidates, one for the State Senate and another for the Assembly, and we urge you to join us in providing them with your financial support.
Mayor Liz Feld of Larchmont is running for the State Senate in Westchester County against an eleven - term incumbent. Mayor Feld supports a property tax cap, modeled after the successful Prop 2 1/2 in Massachusetts. She also has been a strong voice for fiscal reform in Albany and has shown a willingness to take on both Democrats and Republicans over the State's wasteful fiscal practices.
Assemblyman Mike Fitzpatrick is already a member of the legislature, but he is mostly outnumbered by those who simply go along to get along in Albany. He is someone who truly stands out, by willing to question legislation routinely advanced to benefit special interests. Mike Fitzpatrick deserves our financial support so he can continue to advocate sound financial practices at the state level. There is no doubt that the special interests hold too much power over the fate of legislation in our state capitol. That is why concerned citizens need to make their voices heard in support of candidates and incumbents who are doing the right things on behalf of taxpayers.
For further information about these individuals and their candidacies visit www.newyorkersforgrowth.com. Below please find further information should you wish to contribute directly to the campaigns of Liz Feld or Mike Fitzpatrick.
In addition, we hope you consider supporting our efforts by making a contribution to "New Yorkers for Growth". Checks Payable: Friends of Michael Fitzpatrick c/o New Yorkers For Growth, P.O.
