City Council Must Respect Voters
Conservatives Demand Voters Voice be heard

Ft. Hamilton Station, NY (10/23) - - Brooklyn resident, Conservative Party State Chairman Mike Long, called on the New York City Council Members today to respect the voters who put them in office.

"Despite being elected by these same voters, City Council Speaker Quinn is determined to do an end run around them and extend term limits for Mayor Bloomberg and the council members," Long stated. "It is my understanding that an amendment to allow the people to be heard, once again, will be offered when the vote is taken," said Long.

"New Yorkers know what they want and Speaker Quinn is letting her political ambitions deny voters what they have clearly stated not once, but, twice before. Clearly, Speaker Quinn knows that the people of New York have the intelligence to know what is best for them and knowing that must allow the council members the opportunity to amend the current bill and let New Yorkers decided this issue for the final time," said Long.

"The New York City Council must trust the voters and understand that they will have the final say on term limits. I urge every member to vote for the amendment that will again let the voters be heard," said Long. "A vote against the amendment is a vote that tells their constituents that they really do not matter at all," Long concluded.
