Ask your State Assembly Member to Co-Sponsor Illegal Immigration Reduction Legislation!
This is a special message for NumbersUSA members in the State of New York.
The message below is from 9/11 Families for a Secure America, an organization comprised of the families and victims of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks and of other violent crimes committed by illegal aliens. They ask for your assistance in obtaining co-sponsors for a New York State Assembly bill (Assembly Bill 10593) that mandates state and local participation in the Federal Section 287(g) program and provides the state other illegal immigration reduction tools.
Few Americans are aware that the vast majority of state and local police are not currently engaged in the enforcement of U.S. immigration laws. Since 1996, Section 287(g) of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act has permitted state and local police to obtain training in immigration law and enforcement powers. However, due to the strength of illegal alien lobbyists, few jurisdictions have taken advantage of this authority. Some elected state and local officials around the Nation have stood up to the open borders lobby and moved their states or municipalities into agreements with the Federal government that enable them to enforce immigration laws.
In New York State, only the Village of Suffern -- under the leadership of Mayor John Keegan and Police Chief Clarke Osborn -- and the Village of Brewster -- led by then Mayor John Degnan -- have applied for 287(g) authority. The failure to enlist the nation’s 700,000 state and local police in enforcing immigration laws was a major cause of the mass murders of 9/11, and of the thousands of murders, vehicular homicides, rapes and other crimes Americans have suffered at the hands of illegal aliens before and after that infamous day.
At the request of 9/11 Families for a Secure America, State Assemblyman Greg Ball (R-99th District) on April 11, 2008 introduced Assembly Bill 10593, which would require state and local law enforcement agencies in New York State to participate in the federal 287(g) program. AB 10593 also would: require contractors doing business with the state to use existing Federal programs to verify that their employees are legal residents of the U.S.; prohibit “sanctuary city” laws and override local laws that prohibit participation in certain programs; allow the release of convicted illegal aliens only to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE); require the state to obtain a monthly list from ICE of sex offenders on the NYS list of registered sex offenders; and require that victims of identity theft be notified.
9/11 Families for a Secure America is seeking your help in convincing more Assembly members to cosponsor AB 10593. Please call your Assemblyman today! Click here to look up your Assembly member by zip code. Contact information is located on the bottom of each Assemblyman’s web page.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

P.S. We can triple our membership quickly if our members email their friends about us and they in turn email theirs. Polls show that most Americans agree with NumbersUSA's positions but, despite our recent rapid growth, most American voters still have never heard of us. You can help change that by forwarding this email widely.
